  1. Destro AI’s secret sauce is getting robots and humans on the same page

Destro emerged from stealth with $8 million in seed funding. Its AI intelligence layer directs both robots and human workers to carry out cross-docking in Yusen Logistics operations. Built on an open-weight vision-language-action model, it uses the Vision operating system to drive robots and the Mothership operating system to coordinate people, goods and vehicles. Its pilot has expanded from 3 robots to 26, with a new 17-robot pilot launched in Southern California.

  1. [AINews] AMD buys World Labs for $8.2B, as Atlas solves sparse reconstruction problem for robotics, design and more

AMD is acquiring World Labs for $8.2 billion. Since its founding in 2024, World Labs has built model-training teams for images, video and spatial reconstruction, and advanced its robotics simulation capabilities by acquiring SceniX. Its recently released Atlas is an omni model architecture that predicts new viewpoints from 2D images. Combining generative models with multiview geometry, it solves the longstanding sparse reconstruction problem in computer vision, with direct applications in robotics, design, engineering and science.

  1. XPRIZE Wildfire winners spotted fires within 10 min—but couldn’t stop them

Results of the $11 million XPRIZE Wildfire competition left both grand prizes unawarded. The space detection track required identifying fires across a large Australian area within 10 minutes; SIRIUS Wildfire Alliance won a $500,000 first-place award. In the autonomous response track, tested across 386 square miles in Alaska, all three finalists detected high-risk fires within 10 minutes, but none completely extinguished them.

  1. Grabette: an open system to record robot-manipulation data

Hugging Face released Grabette, an open-source system recording manipulation demonstrations with a handheld gripper and two cameras, producing robot-ready datasets without robots or teleoperation equipment. The handheld hardware costs about €490 in materials, with the accompanying motorised Gripette gripper around €120. Hardware CAD, Raspberry Pi collection software and browser-based processing are all open-source.
