  1. NVIDIA Kumo Tabular Sets a New Accuracy-Efficiency Frontier for Tabular Prediction

NVIDIA released Kumo Tabular, an open-source tabular foundation model that predicts labels for new rows in a single forward pass given labelled rows, without training, tuning or feature engineering. It supports classification and regression, offers three sizes from 28M to 215M, and was pretrained solely on artificially generated tables. It uses the commercially usable OpenMDW-1.1 licence and ranks first on TabArena, BeyondArena, TALENT and ScoringBench.

  2. ElevenLabs' new v4 speech model makes AI voices more expressive and consistent

ElevenLabs released Eleven v4, which follows emotion, pause and sound-effect tags in scripts more accurately and maintains a consistent voice in long productions. The architecture also powers Turbo, starting speech output in around 150 milliseconds in official tests, compared with 262 milliseconds for Cartesia Sonic 3.6 and 814 milliseconds for OpenAI GPT-4o mini TTS.

  3. Introducing GPT-6.1 Sol

OpenAI has released GPT-6.1 Sol, which it says offers intelligence close to Astra and is aimed at coding, computer use and professional work. The model's API input and output token prices are one fifth of Astra's standard price.

  1. Jev introduces a new shape of LLM - System One, aka Decision Models

TypeSafe AI released Jev last week, calling it the first example of a new System One model category, though the author prefers decision model. It takes text and returns floating-point values and confidence for categories, yes/no questions and scores. Only input is billed, at $0.042 per million tokens for the first model. The author sees uses in spam detection, tagging and ranking, has tried search reranking, and notes weaknesses with numbers, dates and adversarial content.

  1. Introducing WeatherNext 3, our most advanced and accurate global weather AI model

Google DeepMind and Google Research released WeatherNext 3, calling it the most advanced and accurate global weather model available. It learns directly from real-time geostationary Earth-observation satellite data and generates hourly forecasts, with five-kilometre resolution for key surface variables and roughly five times the overall detail of WeatherNext 2.

  1. Introducing Shieldstral.

Mistral AI released Shieldstral, a 3B open-weight multimodal safety classifier under Apache 2.0 that runs on one 16 GB NVIDIA GPU. It frames moderation as policy-adaptive question answering: policies written in natural language at inference time produce calibrated safety scores without retraining, handling text and images uniformly. Official claims say it matches models up to seven times larger on text safety and sets new best results on multimodal moderation benchmarks.
