  1. Introducing GPT-6.1 Sol

OpenAI has released GPT-6.1 Sol, which it says offers intelligence close to Astra and is aimed at coding, computer use and professional work. The model's API input and output token prices are one fifth of Astra's standard price.

  2. DevDay 2026 Recap

OpenAI has published a DevDay 2026 recap rounding up more than 20 announcements spanning GPT-6 Astra, ChatGPT, Codex, the API, safety and new tools for developers. The original gives only an overview and does not detail each update.

  1. Note on 24th September 2026

In notes on 24 September 2026, Simon Willison said that the more time he spent working with coding agents, the more convinced he became that they made software engineering harder. He believes they can produce astonishing results, but realising their full potential requires exceptional discipline and knowledge.

  1. Quoting voxium

An engineer who joined a large company two weeks earlier says specifications, code, tests, PRDs, tickets and their handling, and reports are all generated by Claude Code. Nobody likes the approach, but they are told to deliver as much as possible. They repeatedly heard leadership say shipping code was not the bottleneck, while engineers from L1 to L7 worked 12–13 hours daily just pressing Enter, with nobody reading anything.

  1. Should you read the code, is RAG dead, and did Skills kill MCP?

The latest GitHub Podcast examines five AI development memes. AI-generated code still needs reading and accountability, with review proportional to risk. Skills package team experience, while MCP standardises connections to tools and data; they can combine. RAG is not dead: it provides relevant information beyond training data and can coexist with agents, Skills and MCP in one workflow.

Copilot's built-in diff, terminal and browser panels enable review, execution and preview of AI code without switching applications. The diff highlights additions in green and deletions in red, supporting acceptance, comments or further edits. The terminal runs project commands with multiple windows, while the browser's Pick & Polish selects elements for agent adjustments.

  1. Modernizing complex legacy code with AI agents.

Mistral helped a European energy operator migrate 40,000 lines of Fortran 77 to C++, targeting a physics-heavy reservoir simulator without a test suite or centralised documentation. The team first built a numerical-alignment testing framework, used Skill.md to guide agents in exporting state snapshots and validating migrated modules, then launched over a hundred agents with Vibe CLI to analyse call trees and used Mistral OCR to organise scattered documents.
